How to record your Mac screen with system audio
On macOS 14 Sonoma and later, apps can capture system audio through Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit framework, so you no longer need a virtual audio driver such as BlackHole or Soundflower. mocka.screen uses ScreenCaptureKit to record your screen, system audio and microphone together at up to 4K 60fps on Apple Silicon Macs.
Why Mac screen recordings used to have no internal audio
For years macOS could not hand an app the sound your Mac was playing. The built-in screenshot toolbar records the microphone only, so people installed a virtual audio device such as BlackHole or Soundflower and routed audio through it by hand.
Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit framework removes that workaround on macOS 14 Sonoma and later. An app asks for Screen Recording permission once and receives the screen and the system audio as one stream.
Record screen, system audio and microphone with mocka.screen
- Record your screen with system audio to capture app sound, and the microphone to capture your voice, together in one take.
- Optionally add the webcam. Its background can be cut out on-device with Apple Vision, with no green screen.
- Record at up to 4K and 60fps. Nothing is uploaded while you record.
Clean up the audio afterwards
Every plan includes on-device noise removal with the DeepFilterNet 3 model, which reduces fan hum, air conditioning, keyboard clicks and room echo. Studio Voice adds EQ, compression, de-essing and loudness normalisation. This runs on your Mac, uses no AI credits and does not upload your audio.
What you need

Frequently asked questions
- Can I record internal audio on a Mac without BlackHole?
- Yes, on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apps built on ScreenCaptureKit, including mocka.screen, capture system audio directly, so no virtual audio driver is needed.
- Does the built-in macOS screen recorder capture system audio?
- The built-in screenshot toolbar records the microphone but not the audio your Mac is playing. To capture system audio you need an app that uses ScreenCaptureKit, such as mocka.screen.
- Does mocka.screen work on Intel Macs?
- No. mocka.screen needs an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
