How to allow screen recording permission on a Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Privacy & Security in the sidebar, click Screen & System Audio Recording, then turn recording on for the app. If the app is not listed, click the Add button below the list and choose it. This is the setting mocka.screen asks you to enable the first time it records.
Steps
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Click Screen & System Audio Recording.
- For each app listed, turn the ability to record on or off.
- To add an app that is not listed, click the Add button below the list and navigate to the app.
If the app still cannot record
- Apple’s page does not say whether an app must be reopened after you change the setting. If macOS shows a prompt to quit and reopen the app, accept it; otherwise quit and reopen the app yourself.
- Check that the app, not a similarly named helper or an older copy, is the one switched on in the list.
- Apple’s page lets you allow an app to record both your screen and audio, or just your audio, so confirm the app has the access it needs.
What mocka.screen needs
mocka.screen captures the screen and system audio through Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit framework, so it needs this permission once. Nothing is uploaded while you record. It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later on an Apple Silicon Mac.
